Rinjani Trekking via Sembalun is one of the most popular routes among travelers. This route is more physically demanding than the Senaru route, but it’s a favorite for those who seek a more challenging adventure. When trekking via Senaru, the journey descends first to Segara Anak Lake, while with the Sembalun route, you ascend to the summit first, then relax as you descend to the lake. The beginning is steep and tough, but it becomes more relaxed after reaching the summit.
The Sembalun route also offers different scenery compared to Senaru. Unlike Senaru, which takes you through dense forest, the Sembalun trail features open grasslands and savannah views. Did you know? You can even reach the summit through the Sembalun route with a 2-day, 1-night program. However, we recommend this option only for experienced hikers who are physically and mentally prepared, as it requires extra endurance.
We offer a complete Rinjani Trekking package via Sembalun. Just bring a small backpack with your personal essentials, we’ll take care of the rest!

If you stay in Senaru, you’ll have the chance to visit Lombok’s largest waterfalls. If you choose to stay in Sembalun, you’ll be treated to beautiful views of flower gardens, strawberry farms, and other scenic photo spots.
Registration
After breakfast at your hotel, we will drive you to the Sembalun Trekking Center for registration (1,156 meters). Before starting the trek, your guide will give you a short briefing and prepare all the necessary trekking equipment, including tents and cooking gear.
Crossing the Grasslands
We will begin the trek around 10:00 AM, crossing the vast and rolling grasslands.
Rest Stops
We will make brief stops at Post 1 and Post 2 for a short rest and snacks, allowing you to regain your energy before continuing the trek to Post 3 (1,800 meters). Here, we will take a longer break and enjoy lunch.
Starting the Steep and Challenging Ascent
After lunch, we will continue the climb, this time through a steep and rugged valley along the crater rim (2,639 meters). Please always follow your guide’s instructions to avoid any accidents or unwanted incidents.
We will arrive at the Sembalun Crater Rim (Plawangan Sembalun) just before sunset. From here, you’ll witness breathtaking views of Segara Anak Lake, Mount Baru Jari, and Mount Rinjani’s summit.
Enjoy the magical sunset while our team sets up the tents and prepares your dinner.
Our team will wake you up at 3:00 AM. Have a light breakfast before beginning the challenging three-hour trek to the summit (3,726 meters). The steep, rocky, and gravel-covered paths will make the climb even harder, constantly pushing you backward. It takes extra strength and determination to battle the extreme terrain and cold night air that might tempt you to give up. However, behind this tough challenge lies an unparalleled beauty.
Reaching the Summit of Rinjani
We will reach the summit just in time for sunrise, standing at the highest point with the magnificent grandeur of Mount Rinjani surrounding you. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Lombok Island, the Gili Islands in North Lombok, and the stunning sunrise.
Return to the Camp
After spending about 30 minutes at the summit, we will descend back to the camp at Sembalun Crater Rim. Our team will prepare breakfast for you before continuing the journey toward the shore of Segara Anak Lake.
We will take a short rest at the lakeside. Upon arrival at Segara Anak Lake (2,000 meters), we will set up camp.
The afternoon can be spent swimming in the natural hot springs, fishing, exploring the lakeside, or simply relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
After breakfast, we will continue trekking along the shore of Segara Anak Lake before starting the ascent out of the crater. The trail is steep, rocky, and passes through dense forest. At the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 meters), please always follow your guide’s instructions.
We will stop here for lunch and a short rest.
The crater rim offers stunning views across the lake toward the summit of Mount Rinjani and is one of the best spots to see Mount Baru Jari, the small active volcano within Rinjani’s crater. Additionally, you can enjoy views of Mount Agung in Bali and the three Gili Islands.
We can either camp here for the night or, if the weather is too cold and everyone still has enough energy, we can continue descending into the forest and set up camp at a more sheltered and comfortable location for the night.
After enjoying your breakfast, we will continue our descent down the mountain. Along the way, we will take longer breaks at Post 3, Post 2, and Post 1, with a lunch break included.
During the journey, as we descend, we will pass through denser and lusher forest areas before arriving at Senaru Village (601 meters).
Drop-off Service to Your Next Destination
